Weekly Prayer: Remaining Open to Correction
SCRIPTURE
“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent His rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those He loves, as a father the son he delights in.”
— Proverbs 3:11–12 (NIV)
“Because the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son.”
— Hebrews 12:6 (NIV)
REFLECTION
This week I received a correction notice in the mail. I had failed to come to a complete stop at a red light before making a right-hand turn. Beyond the financial cost of my mistake, I also felt the sting of shame. I should have been more patient, more intentional, and more aware.
But as I brought this moment to God during a walk, He gently shifted my perspective. Correction, whether it comes from a traffic stop, a trusted friend, or His Spirit, is not meant to crush us. It is meant to shape us.
God’s correction is never condemnation. It is an invitation to grow, to slow down, and to walk more fully in His grace. When correction comes, big or small, it is a reminder that He loves us enough to refine us. He sees us as worth the correction.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for loving me enough to correct me. Help me to stay mindful and present in the moments that matter. Keep me from rushing ahead of You, and remind me to walk in step with Your Spirit. Thank You for protecting me, even when I do not see the danger, and for extending grace when I stumble. You love me, because You call me Your own. You see me as worth the correction, and so I lean into Your grace to receive it. Amen.
