Weekly Prayer: Prayer from Psalm 40
Lord, I wait patiently for You, for even in the waiting You hear me. You incline Your ear to me and hear my cry. When I am in a pit, stuck in the mud and unable to find my footing, You reach down and pull me out.
Thank You for setting my feet on solid ground and making my steps secure. You have put a new song in my mouth—a song of praise to You. May my life be a testimony of Your goodness so that others will see and fear, and put their trust in You.
Lord, You do not desire empty religion or outward sacrifice; You desire a heart that is surrendered to You. Open my ears to hear You. Give me a willing heart that delights to do Your will. Write Your Word upon my heart so Your desires become mine.
I will proclaim Your righteousness. I will not hide Your faithfulness or Your salvation. I will speak of Your steadfast love and truth, because You have been so good to me.
And yet, Lord, I am weak and needy. You, my help and my deliverer, do not delay! Be pleased to rescue me from what overwhelms me and keep me from being consumed by fear, discouragement, or sin.
Lord, do not delay.
