Prayer for When We Cannot Understand
Scripture:
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Weekly Prayer Devotional:
JThis week, we are once again reminded how fragile life is and how broken this world has become. The floods in Texas have left families shattered, children gone too soon, and whole communities wondering if they will ever feel whole again.
It is natural to wonder where God is in the middle of such tragedy. Does He see? Does He care?
Psalm 34:18 reminds us that He is near. He is not far off or indifferent. He draws close to the brokenhearted. He saves those crushed under the weight of grief.
When tragedy strikes, it can feel like darkness is winning. But even then, God is still at work. His patience and His presence never leave. And His promise remains — neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor any powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-29).
Weekly Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
With grieving hearts, we lift up the people of Kerrville County, Texas and surrounding counties. Be near those who are hurting. Comfort them in their confusion and grief. Save them from despair. Show them You are still near.
We confess that we do not understand the events of this passed week. Nor do our hearts know how to compute what we see in the natural with what is said in Your Word. Yet, we choose to trust You. Strengthen our faith when we are tempted to doubt or run in fear. Protect us from the lies of the enemy that whisper You do not care.
Use even this tragedy to draw hearts closer to You and to shine Your light in the darkness.
We long for the day when You wipe away every tear. But until that day, hold us close to You. Walk with us (sometimes carrying us) step by step.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Closing Thought:
If you are hurting this week, know this. You are not alone. God sees you. He hears you. He is near. Let His presence carry you when your own strength is gone.
And if you can, reach out to someone else who is hurting. Pray with them. Remind them of this truth. We are the hands and feet of Christ to one another.
