Weekly Prayer: A Prayer for a Heart Prepared for Christ
SCRIPTURE:
“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.” John 1:9
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
WEEKLY PRAYER REFLECTION:
Recently at my daughter’s discipleship group we talked about the meaning of Advent. Many of the girls had never heard where Advent came from or what it meant. It opened a sweet moment to explain that Advent simply means coming. We prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ, the One who entered our world two thousand years ago, and the One who will come again as He promised.
In a season that moves quickly, Advent becomes a quiet pause. It gives us space to breathe, to remember that God stepped into our story, and to sit with the wonder of the Christ child who arrived in humility for the rescue of the world. The hope wrapped in swaddling cloths still holds us. The promises spoken in Bethlehem still stand. And the same King who fulfilled every word then will fulfill every word still waiting to be completed.
As I watched the girls listen, I felt the Holy Spirit stir something simple but important. We move so fast that we forget our own need to slow down. We forget that God invites us to draw near. Advent becomes a reminder that waiting is not passive. It is expectant. It is the steady confidence that God will do what He said He will do.
My prayer is that we learn to wait with hope rather than anxiety, with wonder rather than hurry, with joy rather than distraction. Christ has come. Christ is coming again. And in the middle of those two truths He keeps shaping our hearts to look more like His.
WEEKLY PRAYER:
Father,
As Advent draws near, quiet my heart. Draw me close, close enough to hear Your voice and to be changed by Your presence. You have always been a God who invites. From the garden to the manger You have called Your people to come near.
Help me slow down. Help me set aside distraction. Tune my ears to Your Word. Fill every part of me with the life of Christ. Shape me into Your likeness so that You are honored in all I do.
And in His fullness, may I be transformed into Your likeness. May You be glorified in me.
Amen.
