Weekly Prayer: A Prayer from Judges 6:34

This week in the curriculum I write for our children’s school, we are studying Gideon. When God first found him hiding in the winepress, Gideon was timid and unsure. Yet the Lord did not rebuke him for his small, growing faith. Instead, He met him with the reassuring power of His presence.

Judges 6:34 tells us that “the Spirit of the LORD clothed Gideon.” The Hebrew imagery is striking. It carries the idea of being wrapped in, enveloped, even worn like a garment. It is as if God put Gideon on like a glove, filling him with His Spirit and empowering him with strength far beyond his natural ability.

Let’s pray for that kind of faith, and that kind of power, in our own lives.

Spirit of the Living God,
Clothe us as You clothed Gideon.
Be kind to our unbelief and encourage our hearts with Your Presence.
Father, wear us like a glove! Be so intimate as to make us Your home!
May You meet our weaknesses with Your might.
Fill us with a power beyond ourselves!
Cause us to know that every victory belongs to You!
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
