WHAT IT MEANS TO WALK AS RUTH IN A BUSY WORLD

By Brandi Haskins, Walking As Ruth

It’s almost June which means calendars are full, inboxes are overflowing, and most of us are juggling more than we can carry. End-of-school events, graduation parties, summer planning, and let’s not even talk about that laundry pile.

In the middle of the madness, we’re often told to “do more” or “push through.” But what if the call for this season and every season is simply to walk like Ruth?

Ruth walked in covenantal love with God and others. She did not always know what was ahead, nor how God would accomplish His goal or fulfill His promise, but she walked faithfully along the path set before her.

When her world fell apart, Ruth didn’t run to fix it. She stayed. She served. She followed Naomi with a loyalty rooted in love, not convenience. And when she ended up in foreign fields, picking scraps left behind the Jewish harvesters, she did the work in front of her with humility and grace.

There’s a quiet strength in that. A pace that’s different from what culture promotes.

We live in a world that rewards hustle. It celebrates being busy. And worships being in the spotlight. But walking as Ruth means choosing faithfulness over frenzy. It means remembering that the small things—the seemingly unseen things—matter to God.

Maybe that looks like speaking declarations over your children before bed instead of finishing that last email. Maybe it’s bringing dinner to a friend, not because it’s convenient, but because it’s what love does. Maybe it’s just waking up, opening your hands, and saying, “God, I trust You today even in the mess.”

Walking as Ruth isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present. It’s about trusting that God sees you in the process and that your obedience, however ordinary, is a part of something eternal.

So in this busy season, don’t feel pressured to do it all.

Just do the next faithful thing.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33–34 to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow… Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

You don’t have to carry tomorrow’s weight today. Walking as Ruth means trusting God with what’s right in front of you and believing He’ll take care of the rest.

God’s not asking you to be perfect, polished, or praised. He’s asking you to walk with Him faithfully, one step at a time.

Scripture

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow… Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - Matthew 6:33–34:
