Bible with Brandi – Week 13 Zechariah Chapter 8-14

How fitting that in the week before Easter, we are invited to read the very prophecy that points us to Palm Sunday! God’s timing is always perfect, and His Word is truly alive, speaking across generations with fresh power and purpose.

This week’s reading takes us deep into the promises of Zechariah. In chapter 8, we see the heart of God for His covenant people: redemption, restoration, and the renewal of His promises. The Lord reminds us that He is faithful!

Then in chapter 9, the focus shifts to the nations. God brings justice to the enemies of the Lord. Yet even here His mercy shines as He promises to preserve a remnant of the Gentiles.God’s redemptive plan has always extended beyond Israel to all who would come to Him!

At the center of this glorious prophecy stands the coming King:

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
— Zechariah 9:9

What a breathtaking picture of Palm Sunday and the Savior. The King of kings comes lowly, approachable, and full of peace. As we prepare our hearts for Easter, this prophecy reminds us that Jesus came exactly as promised!

In chapters 10-13, the Lord sends rain (a beautiful symbol of blessing and the outpouring of His Spirit). He strengthens His people, reveals the coming Messiah as Shepherd-Savior, and prophesies the coming Day of the Lord!

These chapters invite us not only to remember Christ’s triumphal entry, but to rejoice that our King still reigns. He is faithful to redeem, faithful to strengthen, and faithful to fulfill every word He has spoken.

Reflective Questions:

1. What does Zechariah 9:9 reveal to you about the character of Jesus as King? How does His humility challenge your expectations of power, leadership, and salvation?

2. Why do you think God chose to reveal Palm Sunday centuries before it happened?
What does this prophecy, and others, teach you about His faithfulness and sovereignty?

3. The rain in Zechariah symbolizes blessing and the outpouring of God’s Spirit. Where do you need spiritual refreshing, strengthening, or renewed hope right now? Pray and ask God for His rain!

4. How does the image of Jesus as Shepherd-Savior speak to your current season? Read Psalm 23 over yourself and meditate on the thought of God caring for you as a shepherd cares for his flock.

5. As you reflect on the coming Day of the Lord, what stirs in your heart? Does it awaken reverence, urgency, hope, or a deeper desire for holiness? John Bevere just released a book entitled “The King is Coming.” Consider reading it for a take on the Coming Day of the Lord.

6. What does it look like for you to “rejoice greatly” as the daughter of Zion did? This language is similar to that seen in Isaiah 54, when the barren woman is commanded to rejoice before she conceives. How can you intentionally celebrate Christ’s coming this week although you are in a season of waiting for His return?
